About

Dr. Sandberg is the Chief Medical Quality Improvement Officer for Dayton Children’s, a pediatric gastroenterologist, and an assistant professor in pediatrics.

As the Chief Medical Quality Improvement Officer, Dr. Sandberg works with the Clinical Quality Department to lead efforts to improve processes and systems of care. Together with Carol Croop, MS, RN-BC, CPHQ, Dr. Sandberg leads the Intermediate Quality Improvement Course (IQIC), teaching IHI methodology over a nine month course. He serves on multiple teams and committees across the hospital to improve the care that we deliver at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

As a pediatric gastroenterologist, he cares for children who have issues with the esophagus, stomach, intestines and liver. He has a particular interest in caring for those with Inflammatory Bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis). He serves as the physician lead for Improve CareNow, an international health learning collaborative, that has increased remission rates at Dayton Children’s Hospital by more than 20% since 2015.

Dr. Sandberg trained at The University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed his general pediatrics residency at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He completed fellowships in Gastroenterology and Pediatric Health Services Research, as well as a Masters in Health and Healthcare Research from the University of Michigan. Dr. Sandberg joined Dayton Children’s Hospital in 2014.
