About

Sally A. Struthers earned her Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in the History of Art from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Wright State University in Art History and Classics.  She has participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities Italy Institute at Northwestern University, and a Humanities Institute in Greece.
 
Struthers is Professor Emeritus at Sinclair Community College, where she served, over the years, as professor of art history, Chair of the Art Department, Dean of Fine and Performing Arts, and Dean of Liberal Arts, Communication and Social Sciences. Since her retirement from Sinclair, Struthers has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Wright State University. Her courses have included Non-Western Art History, the History of Photography, Women and Art, Italian Sculpture 1200-1700, and an Honors course on the city of Florence, Italy.
 
Struthers has published articles on Classical and Renaissance topics, and curated a major exhibition, “The Roman World: Religions and Everyday Life,” for the Dayton Art Institute. Struthers has been the recipient of the Up and Comers Award, Southwestern Ohio Consortium for Higher Education Teaching Excellence Award, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence in Teaching Award, Capital University’s Adjunct Faculty of the Year (twice), and Wright State University’s College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Alumni Award. She was selected as one of 32 Community Catalysts for the DaytonCREATE project. Struthers is Chair of the Board of Trustees for Culture Works, served two terms as a trustee for the Dayton Art Institute, and currently serves on the Dayton Art Institute’s Collections Committee.
 
Struthers is also an exhibiting photographer, and her photographs meld her interests in art history, classics and photography. Most of her works deal with ancient, mysterious, and sacred places.
