Sheela Barhan, MD is an Associate Professor and the Medical Student Clerkship Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. She enjoys providing reproductive health care for women and believes her own personal growth comes as a fringe benefit from each woman’s reproductive story. Dr. Barhan also enjoys the additional facets that academic medicine offers. “Teaching residents and medical students is the only hope for the future health care of our children and grandchildren.”
Dr. Barhan has been a full-time faculty member at Wright State University since 1996. Her research interests include medical education, breastfeeding, and pain reduction after vaginal delivery.
Dr. Barhan has served as a mentor and advisor for resident and medical student research projects on topics that have included vulvar lichen sclerosus, barriers to initiation of breastfeeding, and postpartum pain management. She has also served as a sub-investigator on industry sponsored clinical trials for endometriosis, fibroids, preterm labor, and female sterilization.
