N2 - Over 15 years ago, Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, began a long-term commitment to improving teacher preparation through dual appointments in science and mathematics education between the disciplinary departments in the College of Science and Mathematics and the Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education and Human Services. These appointments were envisioned within the philosophical framework of the National Network for Educational Renewal and enacted to develop teachers who can foster the skills, dispositions, and knowledge necessary for effective participation in a democracy. The evolution and outcomes of these appointments are shared as a model to expand collaborative educational renewal in a democracy.
