Abstract

The hot carbon escape fluxes and exospheric number densities were calculated for high and low solar activity conditions at Mars. The hot carbon production sources that were considered in the calculations are i) dissociative recombination of CO2+, ii) photodissociation of CO2 and iii) collisions with hot oxygen. We used our two stream code to calculate the escape flux at the exobase and Liouville's theorem to calculate the exospheric densities.
