Motion Perception

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Our environment is replete with motion information. We are mobile and as we move, we create moving images on our retina. Historically, our survival likely depended on accurately determining the speed and direction of an object that had other moving objects around them or was intermittently occluded. Additionally, avoiding being struck also relies on the accurate processing of motion information. With this evolutionary perspective, it is not surprising that our visual system has met the task and developed mechanisms to allow for the processing of complex motion information.
