Abstract
The Viking experiment has established that nitric oxide is a significant minor component of the upper atmosphere of Mars. We present calculations of the dayglow spectrum resulting from photoelectron impact excitation of NO on Mars. Results are given for the intensities of the γ-band system of NO and the Baer-Miescher band system of NO + and comparison is made with the expected intensities of some N 2 band systems.
