Abstract

Numerous studies on lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (LEDVT)
have shown significant morbidity and mortality mandating routine preventive measures
and prophylaxis. Recommendations on prophylaxis or treatment of upper extremity deep
venous thrombosis (UEDVT) are difficult to make because of the limited data on trauma
patients. The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for development of
UEDVT and make recommendations on surveillance, prophylaxis and treatment in
trauma patients.
