Abstract
The solubility of helium, neon, argon and krypton has been determined in 13 hydrocarbon solvents at three temperatures and a total pressure of one atmosphere. Heats and entropies of solution have been calculated from the linear dependence of the logarithm of the solubility with the inverse absolute temperature over the 30° temperature range and the results compared with entropies calculated from simple qualitative pictures of gas solubility. The solubilities have been correlated with various solvent properties such as surface tension, solubility parameter and empty volume.
