Abstract
Groundwater in and around Wright State University is contaminated with high levels of salt. Chloride concentrations are two to five times the levels found in wells in surrounding counties. The cause appears to be salting of roads, parking lots, and sidewalks in winter but could also be due to the old salt barn that has since been removed. The highest levels were measured in 2018, and they have since decreased from 2019 to 2020. In addition, water entering Nutter Center Pond has increased levels of chloride and lower pH compared to other sites on campus. The cause of this is still under investigation.
